Waterloo Region - In honour of Archives Awareness Week, the Region of Waterloo Archives is exhibiting records from local sports teams and demonstrating simple archival methods that will help preserve them for the future. This exhibit will be displayed in the lobby of Regional Administrative Headquarters (150 Frederick Street, Kitchener) from April 6 to 30, 2009.

The exhibit, titled Creating a Game Plan: Tips for Preserving Team Records, features photographs, trophies, uniforms and documents from the Kitchener-Waterloo Track and Field Association, Waterloo Minor Hockey Association, Kitchener Lawn Bowling Club, Kitchener Waterloo Skating Club, Wilfrid Laurier University and University of Waterloo. It also includes historic sports equipment and photographs from Doon Heritage Crossroads. In addition, the Region of Waterloo Archives is hosting a travelling exhibit titled, The Archives of Ontario Remembers our Sporting Past.

The first full week of April has been designated as Archives Awareness Week in Ontario by the Archives Association of Ontario. This week is used to promote the activities and holdings of archives.

The Region of Waterloo Archives is the official repository of the records of the County of Waterloo (1829 - 1972), Regional Municipality of Waterloo (1973 - present), Township of Woolwich (1851 - present) and Town of Elmira (1886 - 1972). The functions of the Archives are to acquire and preserve records of archival value, to facilitate access to the records, and to support the development of the archival community in Waterloo Region.
