New England

Rocky Mountains
The Society of Rocky Mountain Archivists (SRMA) Archives Month is an annual, month-long observance of the importance of historical records to people's lives. Arkansas
The Special Collections Department at the University of Arkansas Libraries will celebrate Archives Month with several programs.

California
The California Historical Records Advisory Board, the California State Archives, and the Society of California Archivists jointly announce the launch of the California Archives Month website, www.archivesmonth.org.

Archives Month is an opportunity for libraries, museums, government archives, historical societies, corporate archives, and related institutions to plan public programs to highlight the importance and value of historic records and archival materials. The theme this year is "Traveling through

California."
The California State Archives will kick off its Archives Month celebration on Saturday, October 6, with a special open house from 4:00 to 8:00 pm featuring tours and exhibits. Family History Day at the California State Archives is October 13, 2007.

Colorado
The Society of Rocky Mountain Archivists (SRMA) Archives Month is an annual, month-long observance of the importance of historical records to people's lives. During October, cultural institutions throughout Colorado and Wyoming will be holding special events in honor of our past.

District of Columbia
The National Archives Assembly and the DC Caucus of the Mid-Atlantic Regional Archives Conference sponsored the 10th Annual Washington, DC, Metropolitan Area Archives Fair on Wednesday, October 11, 2006, from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm at the National Archives. The Fair celebrated Archives Week, an observance highlighting the significance of the documentary record and the documentary richness of our nation. The 2006 theme was “Archives: Bridges from the Past to the Present.” Representatives from many Washington area archival repositories displayed information resources from their institutions.

Florida
The University of Central Florida’s Special Collections and University Archives celebrated Archives Month on October 12, 2006, with an exhibit, A Knight Showcase, and a workshop on preserving family books, scrapbooks and photographs. Archivists will made a short presentation and then were available to discuss individual questions during the reception.

Georgia
In October, Georgia will celebrate its 8th archives celebration -- Georgia Archives Month. This year's theme is “"Georgia History: Stay Tuned."” The purpose of Archives Month is to celebrate the value of Georgia's historical records, publicize the many ways historical records enrich our lives, and recognize those who maintain our communities' historical records.

This is the ideal time to call attention to your organization or local government, and its work in preserving Georgia's documentary heritage. We encourage you to think of ways in which your organization or local government can celebrate Archives Week in your community. Illinois
On October 20, 2007, the Chicago Area Archivists (CAA) and the Chicago Metro History Education Center (CMHEC) are teaming up to sponsor the Chicago Archives Fair, an exciting event designed to build awareness and publicize the wealth of archival collections available for research in the Chicago metropolitan area. Richard M. Daley has drafted a mayoral proclamation stating October to be Archives Month in Chicago.

Indiana

In 2006, the Indiana University Bloomington Libraries held a month-long celebration of our shared history revealed through archives and special collections entitled "Revealing Our Past." http://www.indiana.edu/~libevent/
Also in 2006, The Archives at the Indiana University at South Bend hosted an Open House and reception on October 19, 2006, There were tours of the Archives and Special Collections as well as displays of interesting items from campus-related collections , non-campus-related collections, and Special Collections with information about the items.

Kentucky
The 2007 celebration of Archives Week in Kentucky is October 7-13, 2007.
Archives Week is an annual celebration of the importance of archives and historical records and of the work of institutions which preserve these unique resources. These facilities and their collections are quite varied, but together, they hold a rich documentary legacy which shapes our understanding of the state’s past and our assessment of its future.

Louisiana
In 2007, the Secretary of State Jay Dardenne and the Louisiana State Archives will sponsor Archives Week, October 8-12. The theme for this year's celebration is: "Celebrate a Patchwork of History and Culture." Maine
Maine's Governor John E. Baldacci issued a proclamation recognizing November 5-11, as Maine Archives Week in 2006.

Maryland
In 2006, the Columbia Archives featured hands on preservation tips, video screenings, archival photos, documents and fun memorabilia as a part of its Open House on Wednesday, October 11th, 2006. Treasures from the Columbia Archives’ collection were on display all day.

The Frederick County Public Library held an Archives Week Exhibit, in the Maryland Room, C. Burr Artz Public Library, 110 E. Patrick Street, Frederick, MD. The exhibit featured Bird Photographs of Gary Smyle (1942-2006).

Michigan October is Family History Month in Michigan.

Mississippi
For the month of October, archives and repositories across Mississippi will host various events and activities in celebration of Archives Month 2007. Mississippi’s statewide participation, coordinated by the Society of Mississippi Archivists, is an extension of the national celebration of American Archives Month sponsored by the Society of American Archivists.

This year’s theme, “Faces of Mississippi,” allows archives to showcase their multifaceted collections that represent a rich and diverse state. Organizations are participating in a variety of ways from hosting exhibits to conducting tours.

Missouri
The Association of St. Louis Area Archivists (ASLAA) celebrated Archives Week in Missouri, October 16-22, 2005. A highlight of the week was the Association of St. Louis Area Archivists Fall Educational Program.

Montana
In 2005, the Montana State Historical Records Advisory Board hosted a full day workshop on “Assessing Archival Collections” at the Montana History Conference.

Nebraska In 2007, Nebraska will be celebrating Archive's Week. The event schedule is described here:

"The Jersey Shore in Monmouth County", an exhibit celebrating Archives Month assembled by the Monmouth County Archives staff from documents in the Archives and items contributed by local historians, will be on view in the lobby of the Monmouth County Library Headquarters, 125 Symmes Dr., Manalapan, NJ, from Oct. 1 to Oct. 31, 2007.

October 13 is Archives and History Day at the Library. The event features numerous activities and exhibits by approximately seventy different archives, historical societies, museums, and other history-related organizations and government agencies.

New Mexico

New York
In 2007, The New York State Archives is celebrating Archives Month.

The New York State Archives and the Board of Regents will host the annual Archives Awards luncheon on Monday, October 22 in the Rotunda of the State Education Building in Albany. North Carolina
North Carolina will celebrate Archives Week in October 22-28, 2007. It was sponsored by the Society of North Carolina Archivists (SNCA). The theme for this year's Archives Week is "A Statewide Celebration of the Places that Preserve Memories" Sponsored by the Society of North Carolina Archivists (SNCA), the goal of Archives Week is to make a concerted effort to bring the importance of our profession to our state's citizenry and public leaders.

North Dakota

Ohio
In 2007, the Society of Ohio Archivists, sponsored by the Ohio Historical Records Advisory Board and the Ohio Historical Society celebrate Archives Month with the theme: ”Reunions: Together at the Archives.” More information is available at http://www.ohioarchivists.org.

The Walter Havighurst Special Collections at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio is having a program for Archives Month. The program is titled “ ‘With Sentiments of Respect and Affection:’ Letters of Old Miami, 1809-1873.” It will take place on Tuesday, October 16, 2007 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Miami University’s King Library.

The program complements the first book in a new series of library publications highlighting correspondence and other manuscripts of those who shaped Miami University and made contributions to American history and culture.

Oklahoma

Oregon
In 2006, Oregon celebrated Archives Week for the third year October 7-14.

The Oregon Shakespeare Festival and Southern Oregon University in Ashland, Oregon, invited the community to participate in a variety of programs to celebrate Oregon Archives Week, October 7-14.

Oregon's Governor Ted Kulongoski's issued a proclamation endorsing Oregon Archives Week that recognizes the state's rich history and the role of archivists in collecting and preserving records for future generations.

Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania Archives Month is being celebrated with a variety of events around the state in 2007 based on the theme, "Archives in Our Lives." They include tours to historic sites around the state, behind the scenes tours of the Pennsylvania State Archives, a workshop on genealogical research, a

On October 22, 2007, the archives staff at the Alkek Library is hosting its second annual Archives Month reception on the campus of Texas State University-San Marcos with special guest, state historian and Chair of Texas State's History Department, Dr. Frank de la Tejas. For Archives Week 2007, the Archivists of the Houston Area (AHA!) have created a button to promote awareness and on October 9th a proclamation will be signed by the county commissioners proclaiming the week. Also, various repositories are doing exhibits in the county libraries throughout the month of October and presenting programs. A link to the schedule will be available soon.

Utah
Utah Archives Month is an annual, month-long observance of the importance of archival and historical records to people's lives. A schedule of events statewide is posted on the Utah Archives Month web site,http://www.utaharchivesmonth.org. Twenty-five free events are already set to take place all over Utah during October 2007.

The theme for 2007 is "Documenting Utah--Our Past Deserves a Future" as reflected in the poster design featured on the web site and available to download. Please also see the Gubernatorial Declaration by Governor Jon M. Huntsman, Jr., proclaiming October Archives Month in Utah.

Virginia
2007 marks the sixth annual statewide celebration in Virginia. An Archives Month poster, produced by the Library of Virginia, in conjunction with the Virginia Caucus of MARAC and the Library of Virginia Foundation, will feature images reflective of the celebration’s theme: “Exploring New Worlds—Archives in Our Lives.” The Library’s web site will feature the poster, a gallery of archival images from repositories across state, the governor’s official proclamation, and a schedule of events at the Library. For the first time this year, the State Historical Records Advisory Board, which works to preserve Virginia’s documentary heritage, has sponsored free bookmarks featuring images from the Archives Month poster.

Archaeologists in the Archives Lecture. Christopher L. McDaid, regional archaeologist for the U.S. Army Installation Management Command, Northeast Region, will discuss how archaeologists can combine archival documents with archaeological excavations to present a fuller, more complex history then either documents or archaeology alone could produce.

Wednesday, October 24, 2007
Virginia Archives in Our Lives Lecture. Coy Barefoot, author of The Corner: A History of Student Life at the University of Virginia, will discuss the importance of archives and archivists: how they preserve histories, how they tell stories, and how history often begins with materials tucked away in a shoebox or in a high school yearbook.

" Why is this here?” “You think you are who?” “Oh my, I didn’t need to know that." Join the discussion of the surprising, the odd, and the bizarre! Staff members who work at the reference desk, access material, and process archival collections encounter many intriguing items and patrons. Panelists will detail some of their experiences, explain why their institutions house what they do, and share some of the most entertaining patron questions.

Washington
Washington is celebrating its first-ever statewide Archives Month in October 2007, thanks to the efforts of a Coordinating Committee that includes representatives of institutions from throughout the state. The theme is “Waters of Washington.” The Coordinating Committee produced a poster, assembled a website, and is offering the Basics of Archives workshops to non-archivists who work with many of the state’s important historical records in museums, historical societies, libraries, and local governments. Archives Month sponsors are the Washington State Historical Records Advisory Board, the Washington State Archives, and the Heritage Resource Center. The website http://www.digitalarchives.wa.gov/archivesmonth includes complete details on the workshops, as well as a calendar of events and a sampling of collections and photographs related to the “Waters of Washington.”

Wisconsin
The Wisconsin Historical Society will celebrate Archives Month, with the theme, "Celebrating our Stories." http://www.wisconsinhistory.org/archivesmonth/index/.asp

Wyoming
The Wyoming State Historical Records Advisory Board in cooperation with the Wyoming State Archives celebrates Archives Week in Wyoming and collaborates with the Society of Rocky Mountain Archivists (SRMA) Archives Month in an annual, month-long observance of the importance of historical records to people's lives. During October, cultural institutions throughout Colorado and Wyoming will be holding special events in honor of our past.
